Attending the 5th ERAHS in MINABE・TANABE, 2018

We have taken part in the East Asia Research Association for Agriculture Heritage Systems held in Minabe town, Hidaka ward, Wakayama Pref. from August 26th to 29th.

The conference has been carrying out annually in order to strengthen the cultural exchanges of Agriculture heritage sites of China, Japan and South Korea.

Currently, 52 sites in the 21 countries have been designated as the GIAHS sites. However, more than half of them were in the East Asian three countries.

More than 300 participants gathered and 11 attendants including certified tea farmers, who manage traditional Chagusaba method in Shizuoka, and administrative officers from our council participated in the conference.

Various kinds of distinctive projects conducting in each site for preserving and succeeding the globally important agricultural heritage system for the next generation were presented in the conference.

Shizuoka university students presented the result of case study on the Shizuoka’s Chagusaba method in the poster session, and Akira Nagata, UNU-IAS visiting senior research fellow shared the information concerning our council achievements.

We are going to make a good use of these knowledge collected through this conference for our future activities.
