Tea Pairing Event is Coming Soon, Again!!

What a Tasty Collaboration between the Certified Tea Farmer “Ikumimura” & “ABBA RESORTS IZU”!!

 

A certified tea farmer “Ikumimura” in Shimada city, Shizuoka is going to hold a tea pairing event at the premier and authentic ryokan, Japanese hotel, “ABBA RESORTS IZU (Original Japanese name is Zagyosoh)” in Ito city, Shizuoka. Tea pairing is the beautiful combination between tea and cuisine. It is a brand-new style to enjoy cuisine more with tea by combining tea and dish like wine.

 

The council for the promotion of “Chagusaba in Shizuoka” had the tea pairing event last year in association with the “Zagyosoh” to celebrate 5th anniversary of designation as the GIAHS site by the FAO. Last year’s Event

 

Why don’t you enjoy collaboration between teas with a great deal of personality, produced by the certified tea farmer Yasuhiko Saito as the Chagusaba tea farmer and the splendid French foods cooked by the French chef, Shinpei Yamamoto? We are waiting for your entries!!

The Forum celebrates opening of “Kakegawa City AWAGATAKE GIAHS Chagusaba Terrace” was held.

The council for the promotion of “Chagusaba in Shizuoka” as a GIAHS site held the forum to celebrate opening of the Kakegawa City AWAGATAKE GIAHS Chagusaba terrace on September 11th at Tea Museum, Shizuoka. In spite of bad weather, almost 50 participants were gathered in the conference room.

 

We invited two lecturers to the forum; one is Mr. Akira Nagata who is the Japan Secretariat of East Asia Research Association for Agriculture Heritage Systems (ERAHS), UNU-IAS OUIK and the other specialist is Professor Tomonori Fujikawa from Tokyo University of Agriculture majoring in utilization of organic materials for reduction of environmental load and vitalization of rural communities. They shared useful information toward the revitalization of designated site for GIAHS in Shizuoka.

 

In addition to the lecture, the council secretariat reported the achievement of projects by the council to increase the recognition of GIAHS site, branding and supporting activities. The council continues to promote the GIAHS site and work for preservation of the Shizuoka’s Chagusaba method for the future generation.

The Japan Journal featured “Traditional Tea-Grass Integrated System in Shizuoka” on their JULY/AUGUST 2019 Vol. 16 No. 2 edition. The title of the article is “Superior Tea Supporting Biodiversity”. Kakegawa City AWAGATAKE GIAHS Chagusaba terrace has been launched!!

AWAGATAKE GIAHS Chagusaba terrace has been opened on May 30th, 2019 at the summit of Mt. Awagatake where the shape of the character for tea (cha) is seems like floating on the slope. The appearance of terrace has been uniquely designed based on the shape of “Kapposhi” which is the bundled dried grass such as Japanese silver grass and sasa broadleaf bamboo, eventually spread on the furrows from autumn to winter.

 

There is a mini-theater introducing the tea production by the Shizuoka’s Traditional Tea-Grass Integrated System and a café restaurant serving a tea made in Kakegawa on the first floor. You are able to see picturesque scenery of spreading vast tea fields cultivated by the system, Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay and South Alps from the terrace on the second floor.

 

We are hoping to welcome visitors to this spot where you can fully enjoy the attraction of “Shizuoka’s Traditional Tea-Grass Integrated System”. Hiking trails climb up from the foothill of Mt. Awagatake to the summit walking in the green forest, it takes approximately one hour, are recommended for experience beautiful Satoyama, village-vicinity mountain.

In the Museum Caravan Exhibition “World of Plants” at Museum of Natural and Environmental History, Shizuoka, an exhibition on GIAHS “Chagusaba” in Shizuoka was launched. You can see the specimens of tea plants and end plants.

Museum caravans are usually displayed as moving museums in prefecture schools, etc. Please drop in at this opportunity.

Hand made Japanese Style Black Tea Making Experience for Family and Learning Shizuoka’s Chagusaba Method Carrying out in the GIAHS site

Hand made Japanese style black tea making event, using tea leaves harvested from the tea fields where Chagusaba agricultural method is carrying out, is going to be held in Kikugawa city in the GIAHS site. You will be able to complete entire black tea making process including withering and hand rolling throughout the day. Why don’t you bring your own hand made black tea and enjoy a cup of black tea with your family? This event is available for families including small children.

A photo featured terrace rice paddy fields in Sengamachi won the Grand Prize at Kikugawa city Instagram Photo Contest

Shiawase-no-wa (it means circle of happiness.) Instagram Photo Contest in Kikugawa city was held from June to October, 2018. The organizer announced the awarded photo works this time, and the photo of the terrace rice paddy fields in Sengamachi got the Grand Prize in the “Circle of Attraction” category. Semi-natural grass lands around the terrace rice paddy fields are used for the place where Chagusaba is harvested for the tea cultivation and maintain rich biodiversity such as Japanese brown frog (Rana japonica) etc. The winner is “to_mo_0504”, it is the name of instagram account. The awarded photo will be utilized for the promotion of Kikugawa city and the source of public relation to celebrate 15th anniversary of the municipal system of Kikugawa city.

 

※The Circle of Attraction category in the contest is to compete the excellence of the photos featuring views, cuisines, architectures which illustrate attraction of Kikugawa city. The Circle of Smile category is to collect photos showing happiness through the smile and heartwarming scene.

The event enjoying GIAHS and Tea Paring in winter was held splendidly

We have held the event enjoying GIAHS and tea pairing on December 1st, 2018 in Ito city, Shizuoka at luxury inn, ABBA RESORTS IZU ZAGYOSO. Many participants had a really good time through various attractions, such as French cuisine with tea produced by the Chagusaba method & wasabi and mini-seminars to experience tea brewing, tea tasting, wasabi tasting and blending original aroma.

Let us extend sincere appreciation for those who supported and attended on this event, especially for the certified tea farmers who are conducting Chagusaba method, all the staff of ABBA RESORTS IZU ZAGYOSO, and distinguished artists who operated the mini-seminars for guests in the event.

Council for the promotion of Shizuoka’s Chagusaba method finally finished every entire event to celebrate the fifth anniversary of designation as the GIAHS site.

However, we are going to continue various kinds of projects which promote recognition of this site and branding.

The gatherings enjoying tea pairing with the beautiful cuisine using local foods in Shizuoka in Autumn were held splendidly

We have successfully finished the event enjoying tea pairing with the cuisine using foods blessed by the nature in Shizuoka to celebrate fifth anniversary of designation as the GIAHS site for the Shizuoka’s Chagusaba method at the end of November.

This event was organized with the kind support of Lemonde Fujigaya, many people enjoyed the teas produced by the Chagusaba method and grilled dishes.

We held special three days event inviting certified tea farmers who is conducting Chagusaba method, and they gave a lecture to learn their efforts for the tea production and how to brew tasty a cup of green tea. Arranged special menu was served for the participants.

Let us extend sincere appreciation for those who participated and supported in this event, especially for the Tsuchiya Tea Farm, Arahataen Ltd., Fujitouseicha, Mr Matsuura.

And special thanks to the Lemonde Fujigaya which served wonderful menus for two month for this event.

Special event understanding the system admitted as the World Agricultural Heritage and enjoying Tea Pairing in Autumn

The council for the promotion of “Chagusaba in Shizuoka” has been holding the event to cerebrate 5th anniversary of designation as the GIAHS site by the FAO since 3rd, October 2018 in Shizuoka city. We have organized special version of the Autumn events as follows.

The event consists of the lecture by the certified tea producers about their dedication to the tea production, tea brewing seminar and special lunch course will be served only in this special version of the event.
